Achieve a clearer, more even skin tone with Intense Pulsed Light! Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, is NOT a laser. Lasers utilize a single wavelength of light. IPL emits multiple wavelengths of light to treat vascular (blood vessel) and pigmentary (color) abnormalities of the face, neck, chest, back, and arms.
Sometimes referred to as a "photofacial," Intense Pulsed Light treatment works to:
- Reduce the redness of rosacea.
- Erase age and sun spots.
- Improve fine lines and texture.
- Help diminish pore size.
HOW DOES IPL TREATMENT WORK TO IMPROVE THE APPEARANCE OF SKIN?
The IPL device emits a range of light waves that are tuned to target hemoglobin (the red blood cells in the blood vessels) or melanin (the brown pigment in freckles and age spots). As they pass through the skin, these light waves are absorbed by hemoglobin or melanin, resulting in damage to the vessel wall or fragmentation of the melanin pigment. The tiny vessels and pigment fragments are then absorbed by the body, thereby reducing the appearance of blood vessels, freckles, and age spots.
Typically, a series of treatments is required to achieve the desired result. There is little discomfort and minimal risk and downtime involved with Intense Pulsed Light treatment.
HOW DOES AN IPL TREATMENT INCREASE COLLAGEN?
Fibroblasts are a type of cell in the dermis (the layer of skin below the epidermis) that produces collagen. Light waves from the IPL gently heat the cells in the dermis, stimulating the fibroblasts to produce more collagen. This in turn improves texture and fine wrinkles.
